Your own professional medical kit and instruction cards

You’ll also receive instruction cards. These waterproof and compact information cards summarize the key modules of the HEAT training. You can take these cards with you on your mission and use them as a quick reference if you encounter an emergency.

Safe Learning

Safe learning environment

A safe learning environment is maintained at all times during the course. Your safety and well-being are our primary concerns. More than 20 different trainers and actors are involved in this course. Professionals are always present for supervision and to offer advice. We have an extra psychosocially trained staff member present to guarantee a safe learning environment.

Before and during the course, you can share prior experiences with the trainers. They can discreetly adapt the course for you to ensure this will be the best and safest learning experience you have ever had. And if you need extra personal guidance, we will make time for it.

Practice through hyper-realistic simulations

The course methods are based on role-playing, hyper-realistic simulations, and a continuous storyline. For five days, you will be submerged in a scenario. The course is situated in a war-torn village in a professional exercise center. You will be part of a team assessing a crisis in a foreign country. The scenario starts when you arrive at the course location and ends after five days. Theory and practical learning are combined with situation updates that will require action from your team. You will travel to several locations and will be confronted with ethical dilemmas, hostile situations and constant pressure due to insecurity.

Reviews

What participants say about our Advanced HEAT Course

Paola Valdettaro (Welthungerhilfe)

"Amazing, thanks for the training. One of the bests I have had. Trainers and actors were top-notch, amazing exercises (very funny at the same time) and come back to the theory to make the link. It was a learning and living experience to work along other participants."

Paola Valdettaro
Welthungerhlife
Dávid Csizmadia (NATO Support and Procurement Agency)

"Learning about myself was the greatest benefit of the course, followed by the actual theoretical and practical knowledge that have been taught. Having instructors with a thorough background makes things easier. Definitely a new experience, a great experience."

Dávid Csizmadia
NATO Support and Procurement Agency

"I learned how to let go of the ego and just accept what is happening. Letting go of my usual reactions from my work. Understanding the reactions in the body and mind without having to do anything about it. Trust your senses. Great acting."

Andrei
Police Officer

FAQ
What clothes do I wear during the training?

Please adjust your clothing according to the weather forecast. You should wear outdoor shoes as the ground might be wet, slippery, and sloped. Your clothing should enable you to lie down and crawl on the (sometimes dirty) ground.

Is it possible to reserve a course spot as an option?

Unfortunately, CSD cannot record an optional reservation for you. However, you can move or cancel your registration free of charge up to three weeks before the start of your chosen training.

I am self-employed; can I register for your training?

Yes, you are welcome.

Can you provide a detailed schedule of the training?

After registration, you will receive a timetable with the programme from us.

Can I stay at home overnight during a HEAT training?

We strongly recommend staying overnight at the hotel, as the program is very intensive and immersive. The days end at 10 PM, and the next day’s programme starts early.

I will need to miss part of the training. Is that a problem?

Please note that full participation in the course is required. To receive your certificate, you must attend all modules. Due to the full-day program, there is no time available for work.

Will you arrange my visa?

CSD does not provide an invitation letter or visa support.

Do you organise transportation from the airport to the training site?

CSD does not provide transportation for open training courses. However, on the training details webpage, you can find suggestions for transportation.

Can you fund my participation in the training?

CSD does not fund participants.

Does CSD cover travel costs?

You are responsible for covering your own travel costs.

Can I get a discount?

This is possible when you have multiple participants that we can include on an invoice. Please contact us to discuss the options.

Is this course safe for me?

Participant safety is crucial in all our training courses. We can tailor the training to your mental and physical limits if you communicate them to us. You are also free to take a time-out at any time. If you feel we can accommodate you in a better way, we can adjust the course to ensure you have the best learning experience.

Will there be sleep deprivation?

There is no sleep deprivation (intentionally depriving participants of sleep) in our open courses; we will not wake you up at night. A well-rested participant learns more than a tired participant. Also, in our open courses, sleep deprivation is not a learning goal.

Are there high physical demands?

A HEAT course is not physically demanding. If you are in reasonable physical health, you can complete the course easily. If you have physical limitations, please let us know, and we will adjust the course to ensure it is suitable for you.
