CSD assists Harvard Humanitarian Initiative

Last month CSD trained 120 students from Harvard, Tufts and McGill University in dealing with aggression. The training course was part of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative and Feinstein International Center at Tufts University which includes an intensive weekend-long crisis simulation in Harold Parker State Forest (North Andover, Massachusetts).
This weekend is designed for graduate students who like to learn more about the evolving field of humanitarian studies and who are interested in pursuing careers in the field of humanitarian response.
CSD taught the students how to lower the stress level of an aggressor and themselves through controlling their emotions and non-verbal behaviour. This increases their chance of surviving a hostile situation. The module was highly interactive, during the weekend the students were confronted with roaming militia, roadblocks, robberies and a kidnapping.
The practical events were appreciated by the students. CSD received a lot of positive feedback and we are looking forward to next year.
