Safety Programme for National NGOs

In September and October CSD trained 20 national NGOs in security management in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The programme is funded by an international NGO working with these partner organisations.

The national organisations were trained in organisational security management, implementation and change management, stress and trauma and contingency simulations.

In 10 weeks, the organisations developed security plans for their organisation and worked towards implementation of security management. They were involving their Directors and colleagues in doing risk assessments, that way ensuring the development of a sustainable and integrated approach to security management.

Reaction from one of the participants: I think this is for the first time that a donor has shown its concerns about implementing partners' security and safety issues by organizing such a workshop through CSD experts. This has not only created a sense of security management planning to the participants but also to the top management of participating organizations.

The contents of the workshop were designed keeping in view the local situation and had the flexibility to adopt any new content discussed and recommended by the participants. The workshop was delivered in participatory way which was exceptional. Such workshop should be arranged to other NGOs/INGOs for designing security and safety management systems as working in Pakistan requires such measures.
